USTA New England Announces Diverse Leader Series
USTA NEW ENGLAND TO INTRODUCE INTERVIEW SERIES HIGHLIGHTING DIVERSE LEADERS
WESTBOROUGH, MA – USTA New England is excited to announce the organization is creating a brand new series called, “In Their Own Words,” highlighting diverse leaders throughout the section. This series will feature inspirational video interviews and stories from leaders within the tennis community in order to create awareness for the racial and social injustice that exists throughout the country. This series will be ongoing throughout 2020 and beyond.
“Our country is undergoing a social transformation prompted by the prevalence of racial injustice brought to light over the last few months. It is our intention to open the door and have thoughtful conversations surrounding racial inequity and social justice within the sport of tennis. It’s time to listen, understand and adjust,” said Chantal Roche, USTA New England Diversity & Inclusion Manager.
The first leader to be featured will be former pro player, teaching professional and historian, Art Carrington. Carrington wrote and published the book, ‘Black Tennis (An Archival Collection: 1890-1962)’ in 2009, which combines his upbringing in tennis with untold stories from the black tennis world.
The interview will be released on Thursday, August 6.
